By: Anna De Simone SHELTON, Conn. – Both Phase 1 and Phase 2 of reopening were anything but challenging for the staff members of Spotted Horse Tavern, according to Manager Marc Murphy, who labeled the reopening processes as “quite easy.” “We were given advanced notice and were able to ‘COVID-proof’ all the necessary areas to protect our guests and staff,” said Murphy. Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont announced Monday, July 6 that Phase 3 of the state’s reopening will be paused indefinitely as reported by NBC Connecticut News. According to the article, Gov. Lamont stated that “The state will ‘take a pause’ on phase 3 reopening, allowing 25-person gatherings inside and 100 people outside.” Despite Murphy’s uncertainty of what Phase 3 will look like, he stated that he and the staff at Spotted Horse Tavern “have every intention of following the guidelines to a T.” In the meantime, Murphy is exercising innovative precautionary measures including QR codes for guests to scan and load the restaurant menu on their smartphones. For those individuals that find the QR to be inconvenient, Murphy said disposable single-use paper menus are available for guests to select their desired orders. “We are ensuring everyone's safety by following the guidelines set up by CDC and CRA specs,” said Murphy. “Also, we have a cute dialogue when we greet all of our guests informing them that if they continue to wear masks, we will be able to stay here for them, with a big ‘thank you.’” Every Spotted Horse Tavern staff member is required to wear a face mask, according to Murphy. Additionally, he mentioned that all servers and support-staff use disposable gloves throughout service and signage is posted about safety steps all over the restaurant premises. Furthermore, temperature-checks are performed on all Spotted Horse Tavern staff members upon their arrival to work and recorded daily in a log book. Various sanitizing stations are located throughout the front of house for guests and staff to get disinfectant at their own convenience, according to Murphy. “All these measures will be held onto until [the] state and CDC say it is safe to do otherwise,” said Murphy. Despite not hosting any special events for the time being, Spotted Horse Tavern continues to offer ‘Happy Hour’ every day from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., ‘Taco Tuesday’ with half-price tacos and ‘Wine-and-Dine Wednesdays’ with half-price bottles of wine under $100. “Inside seating is available with lots of room separating guests, said Murphy. “Our message is very simple: your safety is our concern.” Visit Spotted Horse Tavern today!
