This year's Chamber Innovation Award was presented to Comet Technologies USA, Inc. Back in the spring, many members had the opportunity to attend the Chamber's "Focus on Innovation" series held at Comet's state-of-the-art facility located at 100 Trap Falls Road in Shelton. Comet Technologies USA is a subsidiary of the Swiss-based Comet Group, and is a leading global supplier of advanced systems and components based on x-ray, RF and electron beam technologies. The company's x-ray sources are used for non-destructive material inspection in the automotive, aviation, pipeline and steel industries, while their EB technology has wide applications in food packaging sterilization, curing inks and coatings on many products and many other environmentally-friendly applications. Over the past eight months, Comet has been widely featured in a number of trade publications announcing its expansion and a variety of strategic partnerships. In April, Comet acquired PCT Engineered Systems, with headquarters in Davenport, Iowa, giving it direct access to the ebeam end user market. In June, the company's ebeam technology was featured at Fispal, the leading trade fair for food, beverages and packaging in Latin America, held in Sao Paulo, Brazil. And in July, the Comet Group announced a strategic partnership with the Buhler Technology Group to develop new applications based on Comet's compact ebeam technology. Joining us to receive this prestigious award was Jeremy Simon, General Manager, Americas. Jeremy has enjoyed a 16 year career in his industry, and has been an active and effective leader in our Valley since the company relocated from Stamford to Shelton in the Spring of 2014. Jeremy is a graduate of American University with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing & Communications. Among his passions is a love of history and innovation, which suits him well for his position at Comet. Outside of his business interests, Jeremy enjoys running & skiing, particularly in the Swiss Alps, where hopefully there is snow this year! On a personal note, Chamber Board Chair, Phil White, commented that he has had the pleasure of getting to know Jeremy through their participation in our CEO discussion group, and has grown to admire him greatly for his intellect and integrity. |
