"A day without laughter is a day wasted," says Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce staff member Al Patuzzi with his famous laughter and warm smile as he celebrates his 80th birthday today. Al Patuzzi never fails to display, or give to others a sense of happiness. Whether it's a funny joke, words of encouragement, or his lighthearted presence and storytelling within the Chamber's office, Al leaves his fellow staff members with a sense of joy and a better outlook towards life. Celebrating Al's 80th birthday today allowed me to get to know more about his remarkable life. Al Patuzzi is currently the Finance Director at the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce, located within Shelton, Connecticut. He started his career at the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce 21 years ago in 1994, as a devoted volunteer, serving on the Membership, Education and Programs Committees. But Al Patuzzi has worked his entire life in many different careers. Making his life an adventurous journey. Al Patuzzi careers range from being in the US Air Force, working with Computer programming and appliances since 1951, as a sales executive for Unisys, and an Account salesman for Sperry Information Systems and Sperry Univac, since 1966. Al retired from his Accounting career in 1991. Beyond the working force, Al loves to do volunteer work. He has won several awards for his Volunteer involvement within the community, awards such as the Gold Seal and the Platinum Seal. Al has volunteered for groups such as, BH Care and Team, which he was a part of for 12 years. There is not doubt that his volunteer involvement and work career is inspirational, but he is stays true to his humble and fun personality, and that is seen everyday at the Chamber of Commerce. At the Greater Valley of Chamber of Commerce he jokes that he is described by the rest of the chamber staff as the "money man," a name received for his expertise in handling AP, AR, and Payroll, as well as assisting with membership sales and special events. Al says that his favorite part of working at the Chamber of Commerce is the interaction with a diverse and active group of people. His mornings at the office are his motivation to stay active within his life. But beyond his career successes and adventures, Al Patuzzi holds that same extraordinary success as a family man. Family is an important part of Al Patuzzi life. He displays the love he has for his family through the stories of wonderful moments shared with his wife Marian Patuzzi, his children and his grandchildren. When Al is not at the Chamber office, or doing volunteer work, he loves to travel, play golf, and spend his time reading. In celebrating Al's 80th birthday, lets share his sense of laughter and happiness towards our friends, family, and co-workers. -Stephanie Chang |
