The Town of Oxford, with a land area of 33 square miles and a population that has grown from under 10,000 in 2000 to nearly 13,000 today, continues to witness strong growth in its Commercial/Industrial base with a number of projects to include: Airport Economic Development Zone was authorized by the Connecticut Airport Authority and the Governor and includes over 2,500 buildable acres and 60 businesses already located within a 2-mile radius of the Airport. CPV Towantic Energy Center is a 805 megawatt natural gas-fired combined cycle electric generating facility to be located on a 26 acre site in the Woodruff Hill Industrial Park and within the Airport Development Zone. This project represents a private sector investment of more than $1 Billion, and is expected to create 300-500 construction jobs over a 2-year period and generating more than $50 million in property taxes over the life of the project. Quarry Walk at Oxford Town Center is a 215,000 SF Community Retail Center with 150 Residential living units being developed by the Haynes Group along Route 67. Proposed to be Oxford's new "downtown", the project will feature a new Town Green and Village area, convenient shopping, dining and recreational opportunities. Currently committed tenants include Newtown Savings Bank, Market 32 by Price Chopper and Griffin Health Services. Stihl announced plans to construct a 120,000 SF distribution center at 2 Parrot Way in Oxford, to replace the 64,000 SF branch currently located at 14 Forest Parkway in Shelton. |
